Patient Health Priorities Post UK General Election

British voters have made one thing clear in the latest general election: patients must have access to the care they need.

With health care emerging as one of the key issues among UK voters, policymakers globally are facing mounting pressures to prioritize health care in their countries.

Addressing the Concerns of Voters

Policymakers across the world can address the concerns of voters by:

–  Increasing the availability of quality care by developing strategies to address health inequalities

–  Giving health care a meaningful place in government. This can be done through the promotion of patient wellbeing and partnering with nonprofit groups that have the knowledge to advise policy decisions.

–  Promoting communication between patients and the government health agencies through easy access to medical information, care coordinators and ensuring transparent services.

Placing the clinician–patient relationship at the forefront of health care legislation.

Global Challenges

The debate about health care access across the UK reflects a broader global challenge: the ongoing need for patients to be placed at the forefront of decision making.

Health care accessibility serves as a unifying force among patients worldwide. By integrating stakeholders and patient communities into the decision-making process, meaningful reform can improve the lives of patients across the world.
