Know Your Numbers, Treat Your Risk

Every 10 minutes someone in Australia has a heart attack.

Now a new initiative from the Global Alliance for Patient Access, in collaboration with other cardiovascular organizations in Australia, encourages patients to Know Your Numbers, Treat Your Risk when it comes to cardiovascular health.

Once someone experiences a cardiovascular event, they have an increased chance of experiencing another one. But there are steps patients can take to reduce these chances. The first is understanding cholesterol.

Although cholesterol is essential for your body to work, LDL (or bad) cholesterol can lead to cardiovascular events such as a stroke or heart attack. By knowing their numbers and treating their risk, patients can protect themselves from another cardiovascular event.

The Know Your Numbers, Treat Your Risk initiative aims to support patients by:

  • Explaining the importance of monitoring and managing cholesterol levels
  • Acknowledging the impact a heart attack or stroke has on mental health
  • Encouraging patients to discuss heart health and develop a care plan with their GP

With the necessary support and education, patients can work to reduce their chances of another cardiovascular event.
